Who Are We?

Community Mediation Minnesota (CMM) was created in 2017 as the umbrella organization of the state-certified Community Dispute Resolution Programs.  Independently, these organizations have been serving Minnesotans for over 35 years.  By joining together, we have made it easier for Minnesotans to obtain assistance because we now have a unified website which contains lots of helpful information about the services we provide and includes an easy way for to request a mediation. We also have a toll-free telephone number which connects individuals to central intake – 833-266-2663.

So, what services do we provide?

First and foremost, we provide mediation services. Mediation is a conversation, facilitated by one or more trained mediators, between two or more people who disagree.  The conversation is informal and all participants are given time to talk about their concerns.  Decision-making remains with the participants. Mediation is voluntary, confidential and it works! In evaluations collected from participants in mediation, 90% of the participants reported that they were satisfied with mediation and 96% said that they would recommend mediation to others.  We are able to provide mediation services in-person and via remote technology making it easier for individuals to obtain service no matter where they live in Minnesota or if they are in dispute with someone outside of the state.

Many of the Community Dispute Resolution Programs also offer restorative practices.  Restorative practices include a variety of interventions that can range from one-on-one to medium sized groups facilitated by one or more trained facilitators.  These interventions are designed with participant input and typically focus on a broad range of deeply personal and consequential matters where participants are interested in repairing harm, restoring relationships, or renewing a shared sense of community.

CMM supports facilitated dialogues which are medium to large-size group discussions facilitated by trained facilitators.  These interventions address a range of predetermined and participant-identified issues with the goals of capturing a broad range of perspectives and moving the group forward with a shared process and purpose.

Finally, the member organizations of CMM provide training and skill-building opportunities for individuals and institutions.  These services address a wide range of issues based on participant interest and organizational goals.  We utilize expert trainers who lead educational, practical activities in a fun and engaging atmosphere.
